To our Artist’s Parents/Guardians
Welcome to Saturday Art! Each week your Kindergarten and First Graders will be traveling through time and learning about significant events during specific time periods. This week we traveled to the Ice Age. While on our adventure we stargazed, tasted snow (shaved ice), listened to the wind, smelled the glaciers’ mist, and saw a woolly mammoth. Each student was given the opportunity to create and name their own mammoth and a build a home for their creation. All students were encouraged to use their imagination and explore new art tools and materials such as fabric, rocks, grass, and foam. Once the artists finished their mammoth and it’s habitat, students were given their own passport that documented their favorite part about the time period. The passport will travel with them each week and allow them to express themselves and reflect on their learning experience. While at home, we encourage your child to explain their travels and question them about how the Ice Age differs from today. If your child is interested in learning more about the Ice Age, we encourage them to explore other animals alive during this time period. We also recommend reading with your child the story, Woolly MammothBy Mick Manning, which includes fun facts that will elaborate on what we learned in the classroom. We are looking forward to spending Saturday mornings with your child learning about different time periods through art making.
See you next Saturday!
